Even without any confirmation from Apple, it?s safe to assume that iOS 18 will be released in September, around the same time as the yet-to-be-confirmed iPhone 16.
Expect iOS 18 to have some sort of emphasis on AI, generative or otherwise. That could mean improvements to Siri, as well as AI integration into Messages and other built-in iOS apps. Maybe Messages can correct your texts for you, or Safari can summarize web pages. These features would be in line with what Samsung and Google are doing on their latest flagship devices.
Other than that, our best guess for iOS 18 is that texting with Android users will likely be a better experience. That?s because Apple has already confirmed that it will adopt the Rich Communication Services (or RCS) messaging standard starting this year. Android and iOS users will finally be able to see typing indicators, read receipts, and other little conveniences when messaging each other.
iOS 18 reportedly gets some improvements when it comes to accessibility features, which include settings that better support your vision, mobility, hearing, and cognitive needs.
First, there?s Live Speech. According to MacRumors , the perk that lets you type out what you want to say before it?s read out loud is getting a new ?Categories? feature.
With this new functionality, you?ll now have the option to organize frequently used or favorite phrases into categories of your choosing.
Second, Apple is rumored to be introducing ?Adaptive Voice Shortcuts,? which will allow you to map custom phrases to a specific accessibility feature. So if you say a specific custom phrase, you should be able to trigger the accessibility feature you?ve linked it to.
